Rajaram (58), a native of Tarikere taluk in Chikkamagaluru district, died in this accident. Laxmi (40) and Balaji (15), who were in the car at the time of the accident suffered multiple injuries, and were shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

The Maruti A-Star car driven by Rajaram was moving towards Mangaluru from the direction of Chikkamagaluru, whereas the private bus was going to Beltangady from the direction of Hebri, when the accident occurred. In the accident, the front portion of the car was badly damaged, and all the three occupants of the car sustained critical injuries. All the three were taken to Mangaluru for treatment, but Rajaram died in the hospital, as the nature of injuries suffered by him were far more grave in nature.

It is gathered that the car was moving at high speed on the wrong side of the road although it was not overtaking any vehicle, and in spite of the fact that the road ahead it was clear. Efforts made by bus driver, Vasappa Gowda, to avert the accident, proved futile.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the bus driver, the policemen of the station here have registered the case. It is being suspected that technical snags in the car would have caused the accident. The car had documents that are normally needed for admission into a college. Therefore, it is thought that the passengers of the car were going to Mangaluru to get the boy admitted into a college there.
