Panaji, Apr 27: Post-chief election commissioner N Gopalswami's unhapiness over implementation of model code of conduct, Goa administration has swung in action cracking down on poll related offences.
"At least fifty complaints against defacement of public property were registered in Bicholim taluka alone," sources in north goa collectorate stated.
The chief election commissioner, during his recent Goa visit, had expressed unhappiness over the unsatisfactory implementation of model code of conduct in the state. Goa will go for polls on June two.
"We are not taking anything lying down. Notice is also served to aspiring candidate from Cumbharjua constituency, for putting up a huge hoarding without informing the returning officer," officials stated.
District administration's mobile squad has activated itself and has began combing the areas for defacement of properties by political parties. The squad comprises of a mamlatdar-level officer, a police sub-inspector, two police constables, two or three labourers and sometimes a videographer. "Currently, there is only one mobile squad but in the days to come we will have more such squads functioning all over the state," officials stated.
Sources confirmed that the police will soon file FIRs in the cases where posters and banner have been seized. The North Goa collectorate has also started a 24-hour control room.
