Mangalore, May 24: The by-election at Ullal would certainly be a tug-of-war between major political parties.  While the contest is directly between Congress and BJP, JD (S) too cannot be sidelined since they have fielded a Muslim candidate.  So the election is going to be nothing less than a war.  Top leaders of these major parties have already begun door-to-door campaigning.

Former JD (S) leader, deputy chief minister but now a Congress partyman Siddaramaiah too joined Congress brigade at Ullal and sought vote for the Congress in the constituency.

As it has been a regular issue, his talk had plenty against Deve Gowda and his family.  He criticized the BJP-JD (S) coalition government for snail-paced developmental works.

Siddaramaiah, who arrived in the city for campaigning for the Ullal Assembly constituency by-election, told that the JD(S) was a party with no principles and its leaders would crouch to any level for the personal gains of a few top people in the party.

He flayed JD (S) for fielding a Muslim candidate only for the sake of dividing Congress' votes in Ullal.  "They have joined BJP only for the sake of power and nothing else.  There are no ethics for the party which is being ruled by one family and the leaders of which are almost the slaves of the same family," he opined.

He denied charges that he was contemplating to move to some other party since he felt that he was being neglected by the top brass of Congress. "I have no intentions of shifting my loyalty to any other party.  I would continue with Congress and would work for the party," he added.
