Mangalore, May 25: "The state is head and shoulders above the rest in providing in professional education. We are proud to say that we also offer best of medical education to students too. That is why students from others prefer to come to Karnataka for their education," said state medical education minister Dr V S Acharya.
He was speaking after inaugurating the annual day celebrations of St Ann's College of Nursing at Mulki near here on Tuesday May 22 evening.
He further said that earlier nurses had only a minor role to play in the filed of medicine. But today this role has changed and the nurses have been playing a vital role. "But I would ask you to be patient, disciplined and committed to your profession. Yours is more a vocation than a profession," he adviced.
He also congratulated the St Ann's college managing board for establishing a nursing college in Mulki, providing better education and even securing 100 per cent result.
He also released the college bulletin "St Ann's Voice" on the occasion. Meritorious students and those who have won various competition organized by the college were awarded by the management on the occasion.
Catholic Board of Education secretary Fr Wilson D'Souza, parish priest of Immaculate Conception Church Mulki Fr Victor Pinto, Lily Lobo and Lucy Lobo, trustees of Lobo Teachers' Foundation were the chief guests on the occasion.
Managing trustee Eric C Lobo presided over the function. Sr Lucy Rodrigues, principal of the nursing college was also present on the dais.
Alwyn D'Costa presented the report and Smita Rozario welcomed the gathering. Sahana proposed the vote of thanks. Timy Thomas and Misrine compered the programme. College students entertained the gathering with cultural programmes later.
