Mangalore, May 25: “Today you will not find your children with you while they grow young. In the next 25 years, you would find a vast change. Hence, you should get ready for that,” said Oscar Fernandes, union minister for labour.
He was speaking after laying foundation stone for the Golden Age Village and Vishwas Gruha, an assisted living residence for the elderly at Fermai, about 20 kilometres away from the city, on Friday May 25.
Golden Age Village and Vishwas Gruha are promoted by Vishwas Trust which has been rendering yeoman’s service for the betterment and welfare of senior citizens through various projects. It is also running a helpline for the senior citizens in association with the district administration.
There are highest numbers of youth in the country. Glad that, young India is thinking about elderly persons today. Elderly persons should be give emotional, physical and psychological support. Hence, one has to work for providing some social security for the elderly, he called for.
Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, vicar general of Mangalore blessed the occasion. Francis Cutinho, Lawrence D’Souza, Dr Olinda Pereira, founder of Vishwas trust and Sr Lilian were present at the occasion.
Celine Aranha and Titus Noronha informed about the activities of Vishwas trust. Vincent D’Souza, managing trustee of Vishwas trust welcomed the gathering. Marjorie Texeira proposed vote of thanks. Rathna Pinto compered the programme.
