Birmingham, Aug 21: Youngest Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai who attends the all-girls school Edgbaston High School, here, scored a string of A's in her GCSE exams, the results of which were announced yesterday. Her father Ziauddin Yousafzai expressed his pride over her achievements on Twitter saying, "My wife Toor Pekai and I are proud of Malala getting 6A*s and 4As. #education for every child. "
GCSE which is General Certificate of Secondary Education is a qualification in a specific subject typically taken by school students aged 14–16, at a level below A level. Malalahas scored an A grade in the subjects of Maths, English Literature, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Religious Studies, English Language and Biology.
Malala who comes from a family that had a chain of schools in her country of birth Pakistan, sustained a shot in the face earlier on for sharing her experience under the Taliban where she lived. She attends many events to add momentum to her efforts. Asked about how she works out the time to get to events when she is full time student, Malala said, “I will only miss school for an engagement if it is going to bring real change.” She is very much aware that her acceptance of invitations to too many functions, will have a negative impact on her school work. She added, "That is the question I have to ask myself with each request and if the answer is yes, I say, ‘OK, I will sacrifice one day of my school for the education of millions of children who are out of school.
Explaining her reasons to continue her education in the UK, Malala said, “I want to get my education – a good university education. A lot of the politicians have studied in Oxford, like Benazir [Bhutto, who Malala states is her role model]. My dream is to empower myself with education, and then it is a weapon.”
