Udupi, Aug 29: Members of Komu Souharda Vedike, Udupi, staged a protest on the night of Friday August 28, near the Clock Tower condemning the recent Attavar incident.

K Paniraj, addressing the protestors said, “Such a brutal incident brought shame to the coastal region. Fraternity is important to achieve freedom and equality among people. Brotherhood is one of our nation’s principles. But the RSS and BJP are trying to break the fraternity bond. The protest is not restricted to a certain community.”

Condemning the entire episode, he said that the girl has been pressurized to give a twisted statement in favour of the Left Wing. Paniraj demanded that the truth be revealed through a detailed investigation.
He alleged that the legal system has gone into a fully passive mode in the coastal region. “Goons are taking away our human rights. Chief minister Siddaramaiah should call an assembly meeting soon and take a strict decision on this case,” he added.

Idris Hoode condemned the incident and said that the Attavar moral policing incident was an offence. “The goons are interested in stripping a man naked. It was an inhuman act in the name of protecting a Hindu girl. Left Wing members are imposing culture and traditions forcefully on people. There is need to wake up the coastal people against such brutality. The ruling party should focus its attention on such atrocities in the society,” he added.

DSS leader Jayan Malpe said, “If we remain silent and tolerate such cases, they will occur again and again in the society and it is not a good sign in the Hindu religion. Pejawar Sri Vishweshatheertha Swami should break his silence and give clarification on the matter.”

Directly blaming the BJP, he said that it was the other side of BJP. “People are losing the real meaning of the constitution. The principles of the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad are standing before society as a challenge,” he added.
Rajashekhar, Fr William Martis and Husain Kodibengre were among those present.
