Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 5: Muneer Ahmed alias Goods Muneer (56), a resident of Balikashram Road, Kankanady in the city, who was notorious because of HIS involvement with several incidents of thefts from homes at night and stealing of vehicles, was arrested on Friday September 4 by the police personnel of the city crime branch (CCB) here. Two Honda Activa scooters were confiscated from his possession.

CCB police inspector, Valentine D'Souza, and his staff were on patrol duty in the city on Friday, when they came across Muneer Ahmed, who was riding a Honda Activa two-wheeler. Muneer, who was involved with several cases of vehicle thefts in the past, had absented from court hearings in several cases.

During the questioning, Muneer reportedly admitted that the vehicle he was driving had been stolen by him. He had stolen the said vehicle from Azizuddin Road, Bunder in the city, and was moving about in this vehicle by changing its number plate.

The policemen said that Muneer was involved with over 50 past cases of vehicle thefts, house breaking, burglaries, involvement in communal disturbances etc. A case of fraud was registered against him at Thalassery in Kerala. He had been escaping from personal appearance in many court hearings.

It is gathered that Muneer was involved with a case of theft registered in Kadri station here a few years back. After the hearing in the case concluded, and the judge was delivering the judgment, Muneer had run away from the court hall and escaped. He had started to steal in 1980, and continues even now to do so. His younger brother, Abdul Rahim alias Goods Rahim alias Kandi Rahim had been arrested two months back by the CCB police, and ganja was confiscated from his possession. His another brother, Farooq, had been arrested by Bunder police, after ganja was found to be in his possession.

It is gathered that Muneer Ahmed used to borrow money from some known persons. When they pressurized to pay back the loan, he used to get fake complaints registered against the concerned through his wife in different police stations. He and his family members are involved with thefts and anti-social activities, and whenever arrested, used to level false allegations against police department through anonymous persons to Human Rights Commission, a police release said.

The accused was handed over to Bunder police station. The operation to nab him was conducted by CCB inspector, Valentine D'Souza and police sub-inspector, Shyam Sundar, under the orders of city police commissioner, S Murugan and guidance of deputy commissioners of police, K M Shantaraju and Dr Sanjeev M Patil.
