Mangalore, Jul 7: Pilikula Nisargadhama would set a mile stone with its human face. The authorities of the park have come up with a new idea to help those who are visually challenged to get the maximum benefits on visiting the zoo, as the zoo has been attracting tourists from within and outside the district.
At present the zoo houses animals, birds, and reptiles that are brought from Western Ghats and the rest of the country. This is also a rescue centre for orphaned animals, said Jayaprakash Bhandary, zoo director.
The proposed plan is to have life size animal models on evolution of plants and animals to make the park disable friendly and it is also thought that children would also get benefits, he said.
Bhandary remarks that the authorities have ambitious plans to make it a complete park.
Herbivorous will be released in a fifty acre enclosure and can be seen from atop bridges, and big enclosures are also being constructed, he said.
Some projects are in the pipeline like an aviary, an insect museum, a fish pond with endangered and rare fish from the region to enhance the appeal of the zoo, he added.
Lately the zoo has been upgraded to a medium zoo by the central zoo authority and the zoo has a veterinary doctor and a biologist to take care of animals.
