Panaji, Jul 16: Three legislators have filed their nominations for the post of deputy speaker of the Goa state legislative assembly.

The election for the post of deputy speaker will be held tomorrow, July 17.

Congress legislator Mauvin Godinho, BJP legislator Ramesh Tawadkar and Save Goa Front legislator Aleixo Reginaldo Lawrence have filed their nominations with the speaker.

Congress-NCP-Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party combine enjoys the support of 22 legislators which is enough for their candidate to scrape through. Anil Salgaoncar, another independent legislator, is yet to make his stand clear on the voting.

The SGF candidate, on the other hand, has three legislators supporting him while BJP’s candidate has 14 of them.

The main opposition BJP has already hinted that they will support the SGF candidate as a consensus candidate, if talks with the regional party materializes.

The BJP leaders on Monday refrained from divulging their strategy.
