Mangaluru, Oct 8: The district VHP unit on Thursday October 8 expressed objection to the demand by a mosque for a part of the Nandigudda crematorium land for use as a burial ground for the Muslim community, and warned that if the district administration gives in to the demand, it may lead to communal riots.
Addressing a press meet, VHP secretary Gopal Kuthar said, "The crematorium located in Nandigudda is of 2.58 acres, and out of this, Noorul Islam Madrasa and Moideen Juma Masjid have sought 26 cents. They have approached MLA Mohiuddin Bava and the deputy commissioner with the application to grant the land.
"When VHP came to know about, we raised objections. It is a Hindu crematorium and no one has the right to ask any portion of its land. Thus the demand was rejected by the administration," he added.
"However, despite the rejection, the mosque committee again approached the Mangaluru sub-divisional commissioner and submitted the application for grant of crematorium land.
"The portion of the land (survey no 251/1) demanded by the mosque also has tombs of prominent leaders of the Hindu community like Kudmul Ranga Rao and Brahma Samaj leaders. Most of the residents around the crematorium are Hindus and they also have rejected the demand.
"The administration is supposed to issue a public notification inviting objections, but it has not been done. The government has been saying that objections from public have been invited, but in village accountant's office there is no such notification put up. The additional DC had fixed a date for examination of the land and informed the same to the mosque and the villagers, but VHP and complainant Dinesh Kateel Pai have not received any notice regarding this.
"There is a conspiracy behind this. In case the land is given to Muslims, it would lead to riots," he warned, adding, |VHP demands cancellation of the application from the mosque."
"On October 11 at 4 pm, the VHP will hold a procession from Attavar to Nandigudda crematorium and hold a protest meet there at 4.30 pm," he said.
Regarding dissolution of the Goseva Ayoga (Commission for Cattle Conservation) by the Siddaramaiah government, Kuthar said, "The Goseva Ayoga was formed during BJP government has not been scrapped by chief minister Siddaramaiah. VHP strong condems the move. Ever since the Congress government has come to power, it is indulging in anti-Hindu activities. The state government had Kambala but it does not want to bring law against cow slaughter. VHP demands that Goseva Ayoga be restored."
