Puttur, Oct 20: Bandh has been called for two hours from 10 am onward in the town on Thursday October 22 as a mark of protest against the implementation of Yettinahole project. This was stated by Dr M K Prasad Bhandary, leader of Netravati River Diversion Action Committee, at a press conference held here on Monday October 19.
"A silent procession would be led from Bolwar to the town on this occasion. This will be a voluntary bandh that is aimed at creating awareness about the issue among the people. A public meeting will be held at the central part of the town, which will be addressed by MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and Dr Niranjan Rai. About 3,000 people are expected to take part in it," he explained.
Bhandary said that to infuse further envigorate the struggle, puja would be offered to all the rivers which flow from the Western Ghats, right from River Kumaradhara at Subrahmanya. "On October 24, puja to the river will be performed at Gundia Sri Narayanaguru Mandira, in whch Gurpur Vajradehi Math's Rajashekharananda Swamiji will take part. Protests will also be held at taluk, revenue division, and gram panchayat levels," he explained.
When s suggestion was made to rope in union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda for the protest, Bhandary said that there has been a systematic malicious propaganda against the leader. "Gowda had not sanctioned the plan when he was the chief minister. The present Congress government has initiated this project. We will educate the people properly on the subject before inviting DVS," he said.
