Mother sells her new born baby for Dh520

Nov 10 (Emirates247): A Sri Lankan mother was arrested after she sold her 29-day old baby to a woman.

Police also arrested the mother’s accomplice and the buyer on a tip-off by the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The woman had delivered the baby on October 24 at a hospital as a result of an extramarital affair.

Police investigation revealed that she sold the baby on the day of delivery through a third person for Rs20,000 (Dh520) to a woman, claiming that she cannot raise the baby as she is very poor.

All three were produced before the court where the magistrate returned the baby to the mother and released the accomplice and the buyer on bail of Rs100,000.

The next hearing will take place soon.

Mother accused of pushing child in front of train

Sri Lankan police have arrested a mother for allegedly attempting to push her 6-year-old child in front of a moving train.

She, however, denied the charges, ‘Daily Mirror’ reported.

People at the scene foiled her attempt and handed over the mother and the child to the Women’s and Child Bureau of Kandy police, the daily said.

The mother had rented a room near the police station and worked as a labourer.

She told police that the child’s father was not giving them money for their sustenance.

She will soon be produced before the Kandy magistrate.
