Mumbai, Nov 28 (IANS) : India will always remain a tolerant nation, veteran writer Javed Akhtar has said.

"There are certain instances of intolerance in some sections of the society. But India will always remain a tolerant society.

"You can not term the entire nation intolerant," Akhtar said on the sidelines of the Royal Stag Barrel Select Perfect Strokes Season 2 in Pune on Friday.

Earlier, at an event in New Delhi on Monday, Bollywood star Aamir Khan said: "When I sit at home and talk to Kiran, for the first time she said, 'Should we move out of India?' Now that's a very disastrous and a big comment to make to me."

The actor was widely criticised for his comments.

    Nobody is disputing the fact that India is a country of tolerance. There is no other country like India with many major religious followers living in the same village and city without any problem.

    The world-known evangelist Dr. Billy Graham visited India for the first time in 1956, met Pundit Nehru after his speaking engagements at Kottayam, Trichy, Chennai, Calcutta and New Delhi.
    Then he had been to India a few more times. He said in his autobiography, to live, I will take India second to the U.S. Why?
    He felt great hospitality in India.

    India is a country of migrants, the natives are the Dravidians.

    Now, the danger of intolerance has been created by the self-centered political parties using the religious card, specifically using the Hindu religion. That has to be completely eradicated to take India back to the same old mode of tolerance.

    Those politicians using totally arrogant and stupid statements must be punished. There is life and death in our words.

    Who dares to say that we are intolarent?We all have been tolerating Congress rule,corruption,undue favors,long delayed Justice or sometimes no justice at all,poor time management,disrupting parliament & Vidhan sabha proceedings without bothering much at all.Now that we try to have a check on this although after 67 long years,suddenly is the hue & cry heard everywhere.We will always be tolerant,but with a differance making way for a new India which may bring uncomfortability to few who make a loud noise.This is it.

    I feel the vast majority of Indians are tolerant. Only a very small percentage of both hindus and muslims are intolerant. This number I guess is less than 2 percent.
    And I feel their number has not increased during the recent years. The only difference which I have noticed is that they have become more vociferous and are giving hate speeches and spreading hate messages in the social media openly after May 2014.

    Sarva Dharma Samabhavate kind of tolerance as scripted in our constitution should be guaranteed by Govt for survival of our nation.
