Mangaluru, Dec 5: A student of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Suratkal, was killed during the morning walk on Friday December 4. He has been identified as Chetan Chandrakant Chandavar (20), a fifth semester student of mechanical engineering department of NITK. He was from Kumta in Uttara Kannada district.
The students of NITK had gone through hectic days as semester examinations were held recently. The examinations concluded on Thursday. Chandrakant, who was in a relaxed mood, was walking along with friends, Laxmish and Sahana, on the railway tracks towards Pavanje, when a train approached from behind. Although Laxmish and Sahana, who were some distance behind, shouted to Chandrakant to leave the tracks, he could not hear as he was wearing earphones, it is gathered. Both of them rushed ahead and tried to save their friend from imminent death, but did not succeed. Both of them suffered minor injuries in the incident.
A case stands registered in Suratkal police station about the incident. Policemen are investigating.
