Mangaluru: NITK student wearing earphone knocked down by train

Mangaluru, Dec 5: A student of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Suratkal, was killed during the morning walk on Friday December 4. He has been identified as Chetan Chandrakant Chandavar (20), a fifth semester student of mechanical engineering department of NITK. He was from Kumta in Uttara Kannada district.

The students of NITK had gone through hectic days as semester examinations were held recently. The examinations concluded on Thursday. Chandrakant, who was in a relaxed mood, was walking along with friends, Laxmish and Sahana, on the railway tracks towards Pavanje, when a train approached from behind. Although Laxmish and Sahana, who were some distance behind, shouted to Chandrakant to leave the tracks, he could not hear as he was wearing earphones, it is gathered. Both of them rushed ahead and tried to save their friend from imminent death, but did not succeed. Both of them suffered minor injuries in the incident.

A case stands registered in Suratkal police station about the incident. Policemen are investigating.

    whatever the reason is,the truth is a Family lost their Young son,due to some negligence of own.May his Soul rest in peace.Many deaths have occurred due to this headphone.I still have doubt about this here.Because he was with friends Walking on railway tracks.when Walking with friends does one wear headphone ?it is of no use to go with friends with phone.he wont hear what others speak.second friends knew he is wearing headphone.could they immediately instead of calling ,run and pull him back?Mysterious.When at home or in a safe place wear and hear Music.but on roads and in traffic,you Need your all senses to protect yourselves.Tragic.Hope at least now some People learn from this tragedy some lesson and be careful.May his Soul rest in peace.

    I hear chetan was a student of expert PU college...we also did hear that he was a bright student..
    I am sure that he wasn't into cannabis....

    Do you think any literate person with proper senses walk in railway tracks with his earphone on?

    I doubt...only his proper postmortem report will reveal the truth..

    There are some semi-literates here who give clean chit to anybody without going through the facts..

    It could be Cannabises,could be drowsy prescription drugs,could be person had mild hearing disorder which was not diagnosed...

    I am only saying this is not a normal human behaviour of a person of his educational level...

    I only wish this is not repeated again...if that need strict enforcement of drugs...so be it...

    Despite repeated warnings our youngsters are obsessed with mobile music either walking on road or when behind the wheels. They are putting themselves on being killed by accidents or put others in danger.

    Cell phones with youngsters / students is sometimes a curse. They are whole time on it. Even little kids. They even forget their family and busy on Whattsapp or sms etc.

    Truly this is a sad case. May his soul RIP. Amen.

    May this young soul Rest in Peace. God grant him eternal life & strength n courage to his family to bear this untimely loss.
    Earphones and our youngsters these days are inseparable. If we adults advise our young children not to use ear phones at home or in public places, we are termed as " old fashion Parents" !! It's not surprising that few of these youngsters blast music so loud to ears that a person standing next can hear music..!! I have had a couple of experiences myself on Bejai New Road, youth walking carefree with earphones on & they can not hear your horns either.!!

    My words fail to express my sympathies to this family. But am hopeful that some rule would come up soon about using of earphones in public places, like roads, colleges, bus stops, railway stations - every public place possible- should be banned. Offenders should be penalized and later punished accordingly..!!

    RIP!!

    Many such fatal rail accidents of youngsters have occurred in Mumbai local railways tracks!! Another big problem is that those listening to blasting music through earphones slowly lose their hearing power over a period of time, which these youngsters do not realize!! Modern e gizmos have become a big headache than their potential use as youngsters have turned to couch potatoes, net addicts, porn addicts and there is latest psychological disorder which was diagnosed in two brilliant students, termed as 'digital amnesia' which requires a lot of counselling etc. to recover from!! Considering all this youngsters should curtail excess use of these gizmos and rather spend time in outdoor games and social interactions to keep a good balance or else there is lot of harm to be caused due to these e gizmos!!! Jai Digital India!!

    A father who lost his son due to similar reason of using earphone on the railway platform ,today he is creating awareness standing on the railway platforms of mumbai and instructing untrained citizens on safety and sharing about his son death due to such practice.

    But today people just dont care about all these things. Today morning I was Driving the person in another car was in his mobile just driving in the middle of the road least bothered about other people who are driving on the road. He was just not giving side or neither he was hearing the horn. That idiot was having mobile in one hand and steering in other and dont know gear was in which hand ?. It creates a lot of problems for other people. please do stop your vehicle and then talk or else.

    Sad and unbelievable incident,which took the life of young student.Wearing a ear-phone by youngsters has become a fashion now a days.This is common everywhere,no exception.Once they plug in the ear phone in their ears,they will not be here in this world,they are in their own world.This causes the main reason for such accidents.Even if we call,shout,scream at them,they will not hear your voice.This is happening everywhere regardless of school,college,at home or in crowded places.But they will not realize the implications.The practice of wearing ear phone should be stopped especially while walking in railway tracks,crowded places,school,college premises.

    Anyhow heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and pray to Almighty God to grant an eternal peace to the departed soul and give enough strength,courage and patience to the parents of deceased to bear this irreparable loss and grief.RIP

    with all due respect, I do not understand with what intention you have given a reference about cannabis here. This is a freak accident and it occurred due to many reasons and i can assure you that the reason you have mentioned is not one. Kindly refrain from commenting such things when you do not know the truth behind it. While we all mourn the untimely and unforeseen demise you seem to be in your own world where you have no accurate knowledge of the situation. We need to pray for the departed soul instead of preaching about cannabis ban.
    Also, please use parliamentary words while commenting. The words you have used to refer to cannabis don't speak well about you.

    RIP. condolences to his family. Please do not put ear phone either for talking or for listening songs when you walk on roads. I too felt narrowly escaped recently when i was crossing the road speaking to someone.
