Consult opposition on Pathankot attack: Congress tells Modi

New Delhi, Jan 5 (IANS): The Congress on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consult opposition parties on the terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force Base in Punjab in which seven security personnel have been killed.

"We urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the nation into confidence and consult the leadership of the principal opposition parties on this matter," said Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma.

Seven security personnel, including an officer of the National Security Guard (NSG), an IAF Garud commando and five Defence Services Corps (DSC) personnel, were killed by the terrorists in Saturday's pre-dawn attack.

Four terrorists were killed on Saturday after 15 hours of fighting. The fifth terrorist, according to the security forces, was killed on Monday.

The Congress also termed the offensive an attack on the country.

"Pathankot attack is not only a terror attack or an attack on humanity. It is an attack on India. It is an attack on the nation," he added.

Search and combing operation are under way at the air base on Tuesday -- the fourth day after the attack on the frontline Air Force Station (AFS) by suspected Pakistani terrorists.

Let the political parties all unite, and offer their constructive suggestions and support in fighting this horrible evil of Pak-sponsored terrorism.

In the present volatile situation, there should be absolutely no resorting to 'blame game'. Safety and security of our beloved country should always be placed first.
