Panaji, Sep 4:  India's pop sensation Remo Fernandes, who has been invited to perform at the "Incredible India@60" event in US, will dish out a surprise musical pieces for this special occasion.

"I get asked to perform at shows because of the music I have already created and am known for, not for some new tunes which I might create for the show. However, having said that, I will be preparing one or two surprise pieces for this special occasion," Remo told PTI from his residence here.

Remo will be performing in this national event along with his band "Remo and The Microwave Papadums" for the four-day event organized by the ministry of tourism and culture and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The singer, however, preferred to keep his surprise in veil. "I do not wish to talk about them now, as my ideas have often been stolen before," he said.

Expressing excitement in participating in such event, he commented," it is always exciting performing abroad, but it is more so when you're representing your country officially. There's that added feeling of patriotic pride and commitment."

The Remo-led band would be performing at two different places Bryant Park on September 24 and south street seaport on september 25 and 26.

"The idea is to portray and project an image of the 'modern' India, not just the India of great classical of folk music, both of which will also be projected with all the importance and respect they deserve," he said.

"Indian authorities ignored modern Indian music at official festivals in the past; however, Rajiv Gandhi was the first one to project India's new avataar way back in the 1980's by sending Indian rock, pop and fusion groups to the USSR. He was way ahead of his time. Now this young face of India has become not only acceptable, but de rigueur in portraying what India today is all about," the singer, who was bestowed Padma Shri recently, added.

When asked about choice of his songs, he said that he will sing and play hand-picked pieces which represent the wider spectrum of his music: original compositions, fusion instrumentals, one or two songs he has composed and sung for Indian films, and of course his favourite Goan folk songs.

Remo will be performing in the US along this band for the first time though he, himself, has performed there earlier. "We're all kicked and excited about that. I'll finally be able to portray all that I do on stage in the US, not just 10 per cent of it," he added.
