Mangaluru: Drink takes to trench - Miraculous escape for youth

Mangaluru, Jan 16: A group of youth who were allegedly drunk ended up in a trench between the late night of Friday and early Saturday.






The trench was dug on the road for the ongoing concretisation work. The incident took place at Ullalbail near here.

As the main road is closed for the concretisation, a sign board warns about the diversion. But the driver of the car who did not notice the board drove straight on the main road to end up in the trench. Going by the speed of the Duster car, the casualty could have been greater. But the occupants of the car escaped with the providential help.

The names of the occupants of the Kerala registration car are yet to be known.

    nearly 90 percent of accidents are cussed by Alcohol. Never drink and drive thats dangerous !Lucky they escaped unhurt!!

    even though this is a drink and drive incident ,this place is also trap for normal drivers/riders because of negligence of road authority who never installed any proper baricade or road signs at this place .. i have seen their work on concrete road all messed up work done in hurry burry way .. at masthikatte junction after long-time and lot of complication they have finished their work still they dint install any speed breakers here ,it is place where lot of people incl. Children cross road . vehicle here now run with high speed like in a highway that too heavy vehicle carrying tons of loads like stones/container etc there has been already one or two incidents happened due to this free and fast flow of vehicle ,i think authority is waiting for more such incidents to happen .Rather taking precautionary measures by putting up speed breakers and road signs.

    Drink can stage wonderful dramas. Barricades are required for safety and saving lives of conscious citizens not for those who are drunk. Best solution is to have wide special roads, single lane in either directions only dedicated for drunk driving drivers. My suggestion seem to be not practical but public life is in danger as we hear everyday many mishaps related to drink menace.

    Keralites do not think Mangalore or Karnataka is a free place so that you can drink and drive, in fact this week is Traffic safety week. Take the driver to task and ban him from driving in Mangalore /Karnataka. There so many accidents caused by Kerala registered cars.

    But have the Road authorities put up the Warning Boards atleast 100 meters before the dug up Spot ??.
    More often than not,these Boards (if at all put up ) are put up right at the spot....

    Why no proper barricades are placed to prevent motorists from driving into dangerous areas where work is going on? For people who are not familiar with the roads in and around Mangalore driving is very risky and the risk multiplies if you are driving at night. There is no street lighting whatsoever and there are no proper warning signs regarding roadworks or DIE-versions. To make matters worse police have set up unmanned road barriers in many wrong places without any logic which is also leading to accidents.

    Anyhow bars have been banned in Kerala and now on wards we may find many Kerala registration vehicles in trenches, open wells, rivers, ponds etc in Mangalore and nearby areas!.
