Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, Feb 6: The excise officials on Saturday February 6 raided a house at Jalligudde here and seized 800 grams of ganja and arrested three persons.

Acting on a tip-off that ganja was being sold from the house, the officials raided the spot and seized 50 grams of ganja in 10 packets, 200 grams in one packet and 20 packets of 5 grams each, altogether weighing 800 grams.

They also seized an electronic weighing scale, a sickle, a machete and five mobile phones.

The officials arrested Chandu alias Venkatesh Jalligudde, Avinash Padil and Naufal Jalligudde and produced them in court.

The total worth of the seized ganja is said to be Rs 50,000.

The raid operation was done on directions of deputy commissioner of district excise department L A Manjunath, and guided by deputy superintendent of excise Dr Ashalata. Deputy superintendent V Chandrappa, inspector Amarnath, S S Bhandary and other officers led by inspector Satish Kumar conducted the raid.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, L A Manjunath said that in view of the upcoming zilla panchayat elections, checkposts will be set up in every taluk of the district, so as to control illegal liquor and drugs. Already, two of the five checkposts have been set up, he said. Also, two special teams have been formed for the purpose.

"The raids will continue after the elections also, as we aim to make the district free of drug menace," he said.

Sir it is not the matter of what is legal or illegal , its a matter of freedom of choice. The government does not have to be our moral compass. We are informed enough to make our choices. If people are fighting over a plant which grows in the wild that is really a sad situation. There are much more pressing issues which need to be addressed but we are hung up over a plant. If a person has to fail in life he will fail regardless whether he smokes weed or not. So please do not connect stupidity to smoking weed. Anything within limits is medicine. In this information age you cannot simply quote some random information and say it is bad fir everybody. When all the advanced countries are doing research on the health benefits of it , we are still in the stone age thinking regardless of the fact that thos plant originated in our own backyard. We truly are poor for we do not know understand how rich we really are. If you really want to comment on the plant please do a through research on the subject before commenting on ill effects of it. The economic and health benefits are huge to us. If we still chose to close our minds to this information , we are doing a great disservice to ourselves. I beg of you. Please do a through research on the subject. Knowledge matters,Not opinions.

Have people ever thought why weed is illegal? What are the consequences if you legalize it? Well, simple economics.. As long as weed is banned, the cost of weed is high and good for officials who indulge in this business. If it is legalized, it will be as cheap as Liquor and amount to loss of business. Also, even it is legalized, nobody is going to smoke and ruin their own life. This is a game of money not health.

Sinners and partners in crime do not believe in a religion only a joint venture on profit sharing. Bahi, Bahi. Police can increase check points and try to control the menace of drugs/narcotics. Eradication is not that easy.

    THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF MARIJUANA

The immediate effects of taking marijuana include rapid heart beat, disorientation, lack of physical coordination, often followed by depression or sleepiness. Some users suffer panic attacks or anxiety.

But the problem does not end there. According to scientific studies, the active ingredient in cannabis, THC, remains in the body for weeks or longer.

Marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco smoke. One major research study reported that a single cannabis joint could cause as much damage to the lungs as up to five regular cigarettes smoked one after another. Long-time joint smokers often suffer from bronchitis, an inflammation of the respiratory tract.

The drug can affect more than your physical health. Studies in Australia in 2008 linked years of heavy marijuana use to brain abnormalities. This is backed up by earlier research on the long-term effects of marijuana, which indicate changes in the brain similar to those caused by long-term abuse of other major drugs. And a number of studies have shown a connection between continued marijuana use and psychosis.

Marijuana changes the structure of sperm cells, deforming them. Thus even small amounts of marijuana can cause temporary sterility in men. Marijuana use can upset a woman’s menstrual cycle.

Studies show that the mental functions of people who have smoked a lot of marijuana tend to be diminished. The THC in cannabis disrupts nerve cells in the brain affecting memory.

    just for info .. :)

Marijuana legalization has been the talk of North America for years now. It’s arguable that one of the biggest campaign promises made by Canada’s new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, was his goal to legalize cannabis countrywide.

In the US, cannabis is legal in some form in 23 states, and with that we see a staggering number we should all consider.

The number of Americans who fatally overdosed on cannabis in 2015 was: 0.

No one. Not a single person.

This of course is a huge increase from the year before which was also, zero. So it begs the questions: why is marijuana illegal?

And why are other substances like alcohol and pharmaceuticals legal, yet they actively contribute to killing people in large numbers?

Hemp and cannabis became illegal back in 1937 for an all too common reason, it threatened the businesses of powerful people.

Can any body tell me whats wrong with Ganja. Is it more harmful than Liquor or Tobacco. Is this a Babu suppression of individuals freedom, When the whole world is talking about the advantage of Marijuana, why are we so backward in our thinking. when it is proved that people who smoke ganja are more healthier mentally and physically and also very prone to become vegetarians as the body tends to reject meat. Indian babus are just playing to the tune of the liquor & tobacco lobby.

Mr. Henry M. please do not comments in such a harsh work saying drug pedlers to hang.
If they have hanged then their life is finish. They should be kept behind the dark room in jail till their last day of life may be 50 years. Then only they will repent their crime day and night for years.

The people and the judicial system involved in getting high by troubling weed users dont know what it does! Science tells that tobacco and alcohol is more dangerous than weed.
