Dammam, Feb 7: MASA conducted its 9th Annual Day programme 'Sadagara' with exuberance on January 29. The ceremony took off by welcoming distinguished guests and members by entertainment committee in-charge Gopal Krishna Shetty and by highlighting various events lined up for the evening.
The event was inaugurated by president Narendra Shetty by lighting the ceremonial lamp along with vice-president Sadashiv Poojary, advisory committee members Madhav Amin, Ravi Karkera, Ahmed Gulam Beary, general secretary Vidyadhar Shetty, joint secretaries Mohammed Nooman, Satish Bajal, treasurer Praveen Peter Aranha, former general secretary, Naveen Bhandary and excom members Viraj Kumar Shetty, Dayanand Chowta, Ameer Hussain, Edwin Martis, Puttaraju Halappa, Usman Hosangadi and Ibrahim Khadar.
A summary of MASA annual report was presented by general secretary Vidyadhar Shetty, which included the objectives of MASA, various events held, membership status, achievements and charity services provided to various individuals during the year 2015. MASA being a nonprofit charitable organization strives hard to help underprivileged children mainly by providing educational and medical aid. Since the inception and its short span of 9 years, MASA has made a remarkable contribution of around Rs 91 lac towards noble causes.
President Narendra Shetty while addressing the gathering said, this could be possible with the help of generous sponsors and philanthropic donors like Joey Fernandes (Al Manafa Trading & Transport Services), Richard D'Silva (Arabian Cargo), Yogeesh Poojary (SASP), Sadashiv Poojary (Intermodal Services), Shankar Billava (Al Shamasi Turnery), Sagar Kumar (BMC and See & Say.in), Madhav Amin, Ravi Karkera, Dayanand Shriyan, Mohammed Sharif Iqbal, G R Shetty, Naveen Bhandary, well-wishers and many of the MASA members.
The report was followed by award ceremonies anchored by Ravi Karkera, Naveen Bhandary and Mohammed Nooman. MASA, keeping up its tradition, honoured children of its members who achieved excellence in the field of education and extracurricular activities, winners of events during the year 2015 (internal cricket, sports day, food festival, drawing competition volleyball, throwball and Vinaya Bhandary memorial tournament held in Bahrain jointly organized by MASA and Kannada Sangha Bahrain) were also awarded with trophies and mementos. MASA recognized its members for their dedication and extraordinary services during the year 2015 with 'Dedicated Service Award' and 'Extraordinary Service Award'. On this occasion Joseph D'Souza and his wife who completed their 30th wedding anniversary during the year 2015 were also honoured as part of MASA tradition which began last year.

There was pin drop silence and excitement among the audience as they eagerly waited for the announcement of the winner of the prestigious award of MASA, the 'MASA Man of the Year'. The entire auditorium rocked with thunderous applause when Ravi Karkera finally revealed the name. A thorough gentlemen, for his dedication, commitment, endurance and tireless service to MASA since its inception, who has rooted his name in the hearts of many and for his all-round contribution, the prestigious ‘Masa Man of the Year’ award was given to Sadashiv Poojary.
On this grand occasion, Sadashiv Poojary was honoured with a memento, shawl and bouquet by the president and advisory committee members in the presence MASA excom, members and guests. Family members of Sadashiv Poojary were invited on the stage to accompany him to be the part of the celebration. It was an emotional moment when a standing ovation was given by the entire gathering. Poojary while addressing the gathering thanked almighty God and MASA for giving him this prestigious honour and assured of his dedicated and committed service to MASA in fulfilling its motto 'service to humanity is service to God'.
President Narendra Shetty addressed the gathering and expressed his heartfelt thanks to members for rendering dedicated services to MASA and sponsors for their generous support to the association. He thanked the committee for its meticulous planning and its implementation in conducting various events successfully under the professional guidance of advisory committee and also dedicated team of various committees. He emphasized on the commitment of MASA in fulfilling its main objectives, serving for noble causes and at the same time focusing on up brining the talents among MASA members, teens and adults
President had a special mention and appreciation about the great gesture of regular sponsor Joey Fernandes of Al Manafa Trading & Transport Service Company for his continued contribution towards scholarship fund allotment for 20 underprivileged students in the name of his late parents Theresa Fernandes and Gerald Fernandes.
Members and guests enjoyed the exciting and rocking cultural programmes performed by MASA members (kids, teens and adults). Classical dance, singing, skit, drama and cinematic dance were the attractions of the evening, anchored by Sarita P Aranha and Amrita D'Souza.
Added attraction of the evening was raffle draw conducted by Victor Nobby Sequeira and Ibrahim Khadar. Members and guests were happy to take home attractive prizes from the lucky draw.
