Mangaluru, Feb 15: A large crowd gathered to watch Konkani religious drama 'Adanv Ani Ev' ('Adam and Eve') at Padua College grounds here in city on Sunday, February 14.
The drama, originally written by Fr Cyril Desbruslais, has been translated into Konkani by Fr Alwyn Serrao, the principal of Padua College of Commerce and Management and directed by Christopher D'Souza Ninasam.
Before the drama commenced, there was a stage programme presided over by Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, the bishop of Mangaluru. Roy Castelino, the president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Prabhakar Neermarga, Vittori Karkal, Bendore parish priest Fr Antony Serrao were the dignitaries on the dais.
Roy Castelino in his address said that Valentine's Day means falling in love but it should not necessarily mean falling in love with lovers alone. "It can be renewing love among the near and dear ones. It can be strengthening love between us and God and love between self and mother tongue," he said.
Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza in his presidential address said, "I am happy to note that Fr Alwyn Serrao has been working relentlessly for the promotion of religious drama. I congratulate him, the director and all the artistes for enacting this play. I am aware that a lot of hard work goes into this. It is a right thing to do during the lectern season. God bless all of you."
On the same occasion 'Ragthachi Saaks’, a compilation of three dramas translated by Fr Alwyn Serrao, was released by Prabhakar Neermarga. Vithori Karkal introduced the book. Bishop and other dignitaries also honoured director Christopher D'Souza and famous dancer 'Vidhushi' Anjali Vas.
Skip a meal for noble cause
A donation of Rs 16,500 on behalf of the college students was presented to Joseph Crasta from Snehalaya by Bishop of Mangaluru. The donation was a contribution from students after they skipped a meal towards the noble cause. Fr Alwyn Serrao initiated this programme. Snehalaya distributes daily free meal to poor patients and their relatives at government hospitals in Mangaluru and Kasargod in addition to running destitute home and rehabilitation centre at Manjeshwar.
Before the drama, Anjali Vas and her troupe comprising students and faculty of college enacted two colourful dances.
The drama which was a visual treat to spectators was performed by college students. Fr Jayaprakash D'Souza composed music, Satish Ninasam did the stage setting and Kinsley Nazareth provided sounds and lights.
