Bangalore, Sep 27
: A 24-year-old software engineer, Namita Palleyi, hanged herself at a house in Pai Layout, KR Puram on Tuesday.

Namita hailed from Orissa and worked at TCS in Whitefield. In her six-page suicide note, she said she was taking the extreme step as she was suffering from a mental disorder. She also advised her elder brother, Ranjan, who is in Hyderabad, not to worry about her. "I know you like me a lot. But, do not worry about me. I have no life. You complete your MBA," the note read.

Namita was staying with two girls, Kumud and Manisha, who left for work at 7.30 am. Namita stayed back, saying she wasn’t feeling well. Kumud and Manisha returned at 8.30 pm and found the house locked from inside. Namitha did not answer the doorbell nor her cellphone.

Worried, they informed the house-owner, who stayed on the first floor. The owner and neighbours broke open the door and found Namitha hanging from the fan. Ranjan has arrived in the city, while his parents are expected to arrive on Thursday to claim the body. Ranjan told the police Namita had not complained about anything earlier.

'Cook' dupes 13 of Rs 7.25 lac

Bangalore: Mohammed Iqbal and 12 others were all set to fly out to Malaysia on September 13 to take up their new jobs. However, on September 10, they learned that they had been duped to the tune of Rs 7.25 lac by a ‘cook’, Mohammed Inayatullah.

It all started in 2004-05, when Inayatullah came to the city and was introduced to Iqbal. He rented out his mother-in-law’s house in Neelasandra to Inayatullah.

Inayatullah reportedly worked as a cook at several hotels in Johnson Market. During his stay, Inayatullah befriended his neighbours and shopkeepers in Neelasandra.

He said he knew an agent, Dhananjay, who secured passports and visas to Malaysia and Singapore for job aspirants. He assured them of a job for an amount of Rs 40,000 each. Inayatullah gained credibility after he sent four men to Malaysia. Soon after, eight people from the neighbourhood, including Iqbal, and five others from Chikkaballapur, approached him for jobs. Between August 25 and September 7, Inayatullah took 7.25 lac from his victims. They were supposed to fly out on September 13.

On September 7, he vacated the house with his family, saying they were going to Malaysia. He disappeared after assuring the victims that he’d travel with them on September 13.

Lankan held using fake passport, visa

Bangalore: A 23-year-old Sri Lankan, Thushyanthan, was nabbed by immigration officials on Wednesday while he was trying to board a flight to the UK using a fake passport and visa.

Thushyanthan wanted to settle down in Frankfurt with his sister and brother-in-law. A month ago, he contacted an agent for an Indian passport and visa. The agent secured a duplicate passport in the name of another person. Thushyanthan, along with three persons, left Chennai on Wednesday morning and came to Bangalore.

The agent had purchased the airline ticket to UK and secured a boarding pass by showing an original passport. On instructions from the agent, Thushyanthan had already bought a ticket to Mumbai and used it to enter the airport and disposed of the ticket in the toilet and took the agent’s boarding pass.

The agent stamped the duplicate passport with an immigration stamp and directed Thushyanthan to board the flight, which was scheduled to leave at 1.55 am. However, the duty inspector stopped Thushyanthan and inspected his documents during check-in. The cop grew suspicious as he spotted differences in the signature. "Under UV light, the signature of the assistant commissioner of police glows. This test proved that it was a fake passport. Upon investigation, he revealed the truth," the officer said. A few days ago, another Sri Lankan, Nimal Kasan, tried to travel to Paris on a duplicate passport and visa. He was caught in Dubai and deported to Bangalore.
