Mangaluru/Udupi, Mar 30: 8.49 lac students from across the state have applied to appear for the SSLC examination which begins on Wednesday March 30. The examinations will be conducted in 3,082 examination centres spread all over Karnataka, 111 among which have been categorized as sensitive, with 27 grouped as super sensitivie ones.

For the first time ever, the government this time, has utilized the services of officers and staff of different departments. Mobile phone access has been denied for the chief superintendents, who function from the examination rooms. The government has said that people who get to know about incidents of violation of rules or irregularities in examination centres may pass on the same by calling helpline of Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board.
For ensuring free, fair, and transparent holding of examinations, 402 vigilance squads, 20 state level observes, 34 district level observes, 6,164 local vigilance squads and 102 vigilance squads at the district level have been formed.
In Udupi, SSLC examination is being held in 58 centres, out of which nine are in Byndoor block, 13 in Brahmavar, 16 in Udupi, and 11 in Karkala. About 16,074 students are appearing for this examination this time around.
Deputy director of public instruction of the district, Divakar Shetty, confirmed that all precautionary measures have been taken to prevent all kinds of malpractices and special vigilance squads will be keenly keeping an eye on goings on in examination centres. Prohibitory orders barring the functioning of photo copying and xerox centres within a radius of 200 metres from examination centres have already been issued.
This time around, students were not given study holidays at the request of parents. The department is confident of repeating the district's last tear's performance of topping the table in the entire state as far as SSLC results are concerned. The examinations will end on April 13.
