Dubai, Mar 29: Daiji Dubai, a forum of Konkani writers in the UAE is all geared up to organize a musical evening as a grand tribute to the late MickMax in commemoration of his 10th death anniversary.
MickMax left for the heavenly abode on the fateful day of April 24, 2006. This iconic artiste needs no introduction and is highly remembered as a master compere, gifted actor, play wright, and musician. A special event will deliver the illustrious life and the works of the legendary man who contributed immensely to Konkani.
The sentimental night will be held in Dubai on Friday April 8 at Emirates Theater, Jumeirah.
The legendary Mick Max is a name remembered for the passion he had for Konkani literature, drama, poetry, music and for his acting skills. The late MickMax's well-wisher, Dubai-based Nelson Rodricks and family is sponsoring an award in MickMax's honour on an annual basis.
Michael Maxim D’Souza (popularly known as MickMax) was born in 1950 at Bejai parish, Mangaluru to Paul and Florine D’Souza. In his initial years, he learned the basics of music under the tutelage of Cippamaisthry and with the friendship of his son the late Bennet Pinto, he composed several Konkani jewels. His strong competitive spirit won several prizes in Konkani Natak Sabha for Bejai parish. He has had the privilege of compering the first 25 Wilfy Nites in Mangaluru, for which he drafted his own jokes and monologue mimicry and scripts. He entered the Konkani movie 'Mog Ani Maipaas' as an assist to scripting, direction and composing and acted in a supporting role.
MickMax was a theater artiste in his own right and has also written and directed several plays in Konkani. Some of his dramas are 'Thambdo Tharok', 'Chinten Sobdankarnen', 'Amchi Thanthiyaan', 'Sequieram Driver', 'Sobhai Kazarache' (musical drama), 'Augustine Khoim Asa?' 'Pati Polenaka', 'Lek Te Lekch' and others. Apart from theater, he also penned many short stories and novels in Konkani, such as 'Brahmid', 'Mujhivaat Maka' and 'Eklyaakrasloanivatersodlo' and 'Shani', a collection of short stories. Two of his novels have won the Konkani Bhasha Parishad award and one drama has also bagged Sahithya Academy award which put him in spotlight throughout the Konkani world.
He has produced three Konkani albums and composed songs that have touched the hearts of Konkani listeners across the globe.
Hosted by Godwin D'Souza and assisted by Rony Byndoor, the musical nite will be all about romantic, sentimental and memorable songs that have been composed by MickMax for Konkani music lovers.
UAE's top Konkani star singers will perform in the musical evening. Preema D’souza, the recipient of the 'Best Female Singer’ Award at the Gulf Konkani Music Awards-2014 will be one of the few top singers to perform that day. Incidentally, she has rendered her voice for couple of MickMax Music albums. Joshal D'Souza, the winner of Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 4, the greatest Konkani reality show in the Middle East, and Robin Sequeira, who has bagged the title of 'Rai Kogull' (King Nightingale) in 'Soad-4', the Konkani television singing contest on Daijiworld 24x7 channel, will also perform in the event.
Fabulous live music will be provided by Arun Carlo, a well-known musician who has conducted many musical events in Dubai.
The sentimental night will be followed by a ceremony to honour Melvyn Rodrigues with the Daiji Dubai Sahitya Puraskaar 2016, a book and CD release, launching of Daiji Trust and staging of 'Parat Ek Pavtim' Award winning Konkani drama by Eddie Sequeira, to be presented by Rang-Antrang Konkani Manchi, Mangaluru.
