Mangaluru, Mar 30: State health minister, U T Khader, said that his department is considering a proposal to honour those who come to the rescue of accident victims immediately and admit them into hospitals with 'lifeguard' awards. "We are considering registration of suo moto cases by health department against whose who get busy capturing the accident scene by either photography or video instead of helping the victims, wherever the department gets information supported by evidence" he stated.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday March 29, Khader said that considering the seriousness of the accident and need for treatment, provision has been made under the scheme of the government aimed at meeting treatment expenses in case of accidents upto a limit of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 or Rs 5,000 depending upon where they are treated, like super specialty hospitals, district hospitals, taluk hospitals or private hospitals. He said that for this scheme to succeed, everyone should join hands. He said that plans are afoot to see that all the MLAs convene a meeting of officials of all the hospitals within the constituency and educate them about the provisions of the scheme and the need to implement the scheme in right earnest.
About the TB treatment centre in the city where 30 to 38 patients are being treated with the help of five nurses, three doctors and seven 'D' group workers, he said that the building, which is very old, is being renovated shortly. He said that systems would be strengthened to provide good treatment to TB patients in all the district hospitals.
"A scheme titled 'Manochaitanya' under which medical officers would be visiting primary health centres on the morning of every Tuesday to provide treatment to patients with psychological disorders has been initiated. District level medical officers will visit taluk level hospitals and check the health conditions of patients. This plan envisages drawing of support from NGOs and others. For this purpose, the government provides grant of Rs 1.6 lac," he stated.
