Mangaluru, Apr 2: A warden of the district prison at jail road here assaulted another warden on Friday April 1 in the presence of the jail superintendent.

Warden of the prison, Chakresh Kumar, has been accused of beating up his colleague, Santosh Rathod. Reportedly, Santosh had visited the office of the jail superintendent to get the latter's signature on certain documents, when Chakresh Kumar suddenly came there and launched assault on Santosh.

Other prison staff intervened and pacified the agitated Chakresh. Santosh got admitted into Wenlock Hospital for treatment. This development has created a new situation in the prison that was hitherto known for frequent fights between under-trial prisoners.

Santosh said that it is becoming increasingly difficult to function in a situation where people face threat from their own colleagues. Jail superintendent, Krishnamurty, said that the incident occurred when he was inspecting the prisoners. He added that the attack was the result of some personal issues. He said he would be taking action as per rules soon.

There were allegations at the time double murders occurred inside this prison sometime back that Santosh had helped some people to smuggle deadly weapons into the prison.
