The dream of the founder of Cheshire Home, Leonard Cheshire, must be realized. Leonard Cheshire compels one to realize the presence of God, said Dr Raghuveer C V, dean at KMC.

Appreciating the efforts by the home, he said that youngsters should be motivated to pay their attention to social service besides their academics.

Exemplifying the jasmine cultivation undertaken at the home chiefly to keep the residents of the home occupied, he said that the cultivation not only makes the inmates occupied, self-sustaining, self-sufficient but also makes others to recognize their talents.

The caption of this article whetted my apetite, because I read an interesting article of Leonard Cheshire as a teenager. Group Captain Leonard Cheshire is the most highly decorated Royal Air Force pilot during the World War II and he was from the bomber branch.

During the ping of the atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki, he was an observer who witnessed the devastation wrought by the bomb. After World War II, he retired from the RAF and started his first home at Mahakali Caves Road, Bombay, which is being looked after by nuns and takes care of people who have lost their arms and limbs.

On one of my visit, I met there one of the invalids who had performed some circus stunts in the film "Mera Naam Joker". These institutions are doing a great service to mankind.

I was very happy to read these news. As a well-wisher and former member of the Cheshire Homes International, and currently taking keen interest in the development internationally, I closely follow these news.

Six years ago, my colleague and his wife, Dr. John and Jacqueline Owen, visited the Mangalore Home through the kind facilitation of Maj Gen Dowdy of the Delhi Cheshire Trust Foundation, and we were greatly impressed by the organization and management of the Home, especially by the Secretary, Terry Vaz and her staff who showed us around and entertained us with presentations from the residents, and by Hon. Blasius D'Souza who, I believe, was (and may still be) the President. I will be in Mangalore in December and it will be a great honour to visit the Home once again around the 3rd or 4th of December.
