Kundapur, Apr 3: The police personnel, who have a hectic work schedule, do not normally get sufficient time for recreation. The reward they get for their service is only criticism from public who rarely appreciate their work. But the police department under the leadership of superintendent of police (SP) K Annamalai has been innovative enough to find ways for implementation of new methods to keep the personnel happy and de-stressed. Annamalai's initiative in this regard is praiseworthy and stands as a model for other police officers in the state.

SP Annamalai believes that police should work without pressure and should maintain their health in order to contribute to the health of the society. SP Annamalai himself has taken teh first step in the right direction, with a cycle rally here on Sunday April 3.

A team of 28 including Annamalai started off at 6.30 am from Shiroor near Byndoor on cycle rally to Padubidri. The team included police personnel and lecturers from MIT Manipal. St Antony Cycle Company provided cycles to some of them.

The team stopped at Kundapur for breakfast. Speaking to the media, SP Annamalai said, "This is the best opportunity for police to get relief from weekly work pressure. Cycling helps in maintaining mental stability. Every nerve is activated during cycling. Hence it energises and rejuvenates the cyclist. Negative attitude and apathy towards work disappears and cyclist becomes enthusiastic. A trip every week through the district will help in understanding the situation in every corner."

Udupi DySP, crime inspector, D R police personnel, St Antony Cycle Company employees, staff from MIT College, Venkatesh from S V Enterprises participated in the rally. Kundapur circle inspector P M Divakar, SI Nasir Hussain and other personnel welcomed.

Good initiative by SP Annamalai. Young Officers like you are inspiration to upcoming younger officers & also Senior ones. Sure some day people will realise value of Police officers in our lives. Few tainted ones spoil integrity of all officers & that is not a right thing, but it happens every where.
Cycling is way for healthy life style, but our roads are not that safe to cycle am sure. That is why parents are apprehensive to allow children to cycle. Sooner or later aware will prevail & we will get back to cycling rather than driving.!!
Great sir, keep it up & God Bless your efforts always.

I appreciate the initiative of young officer.
As green initiative, small towns and villages can still be patrolled by this means using modern bikes.
Sir,It won't be wise to ride bicycle in highways without reflective gears.

Fantastic idea by SP Annamalai to lead a cycle rally to promote a healthy lifestyle. I think this cycle rally should have taken place with clear roads as I saw in the pictures, heavy vehicles are moving at the same time. This rally was sort of relief for many police personnel who work very hard at the cost of their time and life.

    Good initiative by SP Annamalai.
Good thoughts that Police should maintain their health in order to contribute to the health of the society.
But the apprehension is about Cycle riders safety on the roads where accidents are regular affair. Should do something to prevent/minimize accidents first.

Kudos to you Mr. Annamali. A healthy body always encompasses a healthy mind. It is good that the S.P. is trying to inculcate true values within the police personnel.

I would like to join such a rally and it is my hope that I will have an occasion to meet Mr. Annamalai in the near future to discuss some other aspects to help people in general and people within the district in particular.

Sir I(SP Annamalai), you are leading by example. While people’s representatives are busy discussing about watch and daliths, you are quietly trying to bring change in people’s thinking and way of life. It would be a great help if you use your good office to strictly implement pedestrian crossing in the city and near schools/markets of every town and village under your jurisdiction. Also, Motorists hitting the cyclists and pedestrians must be severely punished either by suspending their licence or pay the medical expenses of the victims. Trust me, you will not get any help from ministers and politicians because they and their children have luxury cars to commute and they hardly walk, cycle or use public transport

Good initiative but on safety aspects not a good move to ride on vehicle movement area. Need to have separate lane.
