Apr 04 (Emirates247): Two young women beach goers helped Dubai Police’s maritime rescue team to save a man and a woman from drowning off Jumeirah Beach, the Arabic daily newspaper Emarat Al Youm has reported.
The saved man told the newspaper: “We had lost hope when suddenly a young and very skillful woman with young African features pushed us to the shore. She kept pushing us until a fully-clothed young Egyptian woman jumped into the water and also helped us to get us out safely.
A security source at Dubai Police said the police welcomes all help from members of the public to save the lives of people in danger.
A man, his woman relative and her 19-year-old daughter had gone to Jumeirah Beach on Thursday evening. Despite warnings, they decided to swim.
The saved man said: “We decided to swim next to the beach in a safe area but the waves pulled the girl deeper into the water. I rushed towards her, managed to save her and return her to the beach.
He added: “I was surprised when her mother entered the water to help us and I swam towards the mother after I saw that waves were drawing her deeper into the sea.
“When I reached her, the waves were strong and we did not find ground under our feet. We swallowed some sea water and we thought we were surely drowning.
“Suddenly a young African woman extended her hand to us and I pulled her hand so strongly that she almost sank into the water.
“But she skillfully disengaged from us and screamed at us to stop resisting and began to gradually push us towards the shore.
“When we reached the beach, we found that the rescuers were accompanied by another young woman,” the saved man said.
He said he searched for their African woman saviour but she had disappeared.
The 23-year-old Egyptian woman, identified as Sarah Saif Al Nasr, said: “What I did is not heroic since it is the duty of every human help save another’s life.”
Security sources in Dubai Police said some people enter the sea even at times when it is prohibited, assuming that knowing how to swim well ensures their safety.
He said, in this case, on receives news of drowning, two rescuers rushed to scene and pulled out the man and two women.
The source also praised the two young women for their role in saving them.
