Puttur, Apr 6: A murder accused ran away from the court when the trial was going on, on Tuesday April 5, only to be caught later outside the court by public.
Jayesh from Shiradi Addahole in Puttur taluk is the person accused.
Jayesh had murdered a woman Soumya and her son Jishnu in 2008 in Addahole. After that he ran way to Moovattapuram in Kerala where he worked as a vegetable vendor. He could not traced for the next 6 years,
In 2014, Jayesh had a fight with his wife. He climbed a coconut tree in protest to show his unhappiness with his wife. The matter reached the police who came to the spot and convinced Jayesh to climb down. As a routine procedure they took him to police station for further investigations. Police suspected him of being a criminal during the interrogations. Jayesh admitted to the crime of killing two persons in his home village.
Upon knowing about apprehension of Jayesh, Uppinangadi police went to Kerala and brought him to Uppinangadi. They managed to secure his judicial custody. Later he was housed in Mangaluru jail pending trial.
On Tuesday, Jayesh tried to run away on his way from Mangaluru to Puttur. But the police, who were alert, foiled this attempt. He was promptly produced in 5th additional sessions court in Puttur.
Jayesh was standing in the accused box when a witness was testifying against him. When all were seriously immersed in the case, Jayesh at once jumped out from the accused box and ran away from the court. Police, who were guarding him, ran outside in search of him. But Jayesh could not be found in the crowd.
A lawyer, who spotted Jayesh near Mini Vidhana Soudha about 150 meters from the court, called the public to help him catch Jayesh. They managed to cage him in minutes.
Jayesh started shouting at the lawyer and the public for catching him. He was taken back to jail after that.
