Mangalore Oct 12: A sub-committee of NGO Okkoota, Aahara Bhadrata Andolana Samiti (ABAS), will embark on a postcard campaign for implementation of food security for people in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court, informed B M Krishnappa, convener of the Samiti to media-persons here on Thursday October 11. 

As part of this campaign various self-help groups and non-government organizations (NGOs) would mail about 5,000 postcards to the chief secretary to expedite the implementation of food security measures.

A wide variety of programmes are planned all over the state in view of the World Food Week starting from October 11 to 17. The valedictory function on the same would be held at Bangalore on October 15 and 16. 

In Dakshina Kannada, a consultation meet would be held at Bantwal on Tuesday October 16. The Samiti would try to push for proper distribution of ration cards to eligible beneficiaries, especially those below the poverty line families. The other demands include providing 10 kg food grain to every member of a family, depending on the geographical location of his residence and steps to ensure that fair price depots functioned as per the Supreme Court’s directives.
