Udupi, Oct 19: The number of people coming forward and lodging complaints is lesser in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts compared to other districts in Karnataka, but it does not mean that the quantum of corruption is any less in the two districts. But the public determination to fight corruption is not strong enough, according to Ishwara Chandra Vidyasagar, superintendent of police (Lok Ayukta).
He told newspersons here that the Lok Ayukta had received only seventeen complaints so far in Udupi and six complaints have been taken action on. A few enquiries had been made about unnecessary delay, surprise and regular visits have been paid to offices to ensure efficiency.
Udupi tahsildar executes work at taluk office with all care and interest, and the facilities available at the district hospital must be appreciated, he said.
Since the Lok Ayukta had been given suo-moto powers to investigate into matters like poor quality of construction of buildings, land disputes, corruption, misappropriation of funds within its jurisdiction, under the provisions of the Karnataka Lokayukta Act, public can file case with confidence, he added. One can lodge complaint even on phone, he said.
Responding to questions about the pathetic conditions of roads, he said it is being highlighted in reports sent to higher officials that they are no roads linking main cities. Lok Ayukta has already filed a case about Charmadi and Shiradi ghats.
Since he is headquartered in Mysore , it is not possible for him to visit Udupi off and on, but assured that he would come to Udupi at least once in a month and tour taluk centers with the DySP to solve the problems of the people.
