Rationalist Prof Narendra Nayak gets life threat, lodges police complaint

Mangaluru, May 9: Federation of Indian Rationalists’ Associations’ president Prof Narendra Nayak, who has been campaigning for the arrest of murder suspects of RTI activist Vinayaka Panduranga Baliga, has reportedly received life threats. Police have received complaint in this regard.

It is alleged that Kashi Math follower Shashank Shenoy has threatened Narendra Nayak through Facebook messenger. The message in Kannada states “Why do you intend to put your dirty hand in the mouth of a tiger? You cannot even imagine what will happen tomorrow. You can comprehend this way you like.”


During the rally

Prof Narendra Nayak has complained to Urwa Circle inspector Ravish Nayak about the threat. “I always had threat to my life. Now Shashank Shenoy posing as the follower of Kashi Math has threatened me of life”, said Nayak.

Namo Brigade founder Naresh Shenoy is a prime suspect in the murder of Baliga which took place on March 21. In this connection a rally was taken up from Kalakunj where Baliga was murdered, to the office of the police commissioner by Deshapremi Sanghatanegala Okkoota recently urging for arrest of all the murder suspects of Baliga. Prof Narendra Nayak had addressed the protesters on that day.

    Here Prof. Narendra Nayak fights for a good cause. He knows a smart lawyer can keep a killer out of jail.He also knows group behind killer can manipulate the facts. So these facts make him to put pressure on investigating department.
    If they get the killer I think capital punishment works great. So that killer won't kill again.!

    This is isn't the first Murder to ever happen in the planet. I have a great deal of respect for Prof. Nayak, he is alone fighting the battle on behalf of the victims. But to blatantly blame the Police investigation and community for inaction is wrong. People are too busy just living their lives and earning a living. How many people in this forum have gone out and protested for anything ever in their life? The most people have done is, maybe post a comment on a social forum like this. Murder investigations are complex, if you do it in haste, defence lawyers will easily poke holes in the prosecution story and get an acquittal.

    Prof. Nayak and all his supporters need to be patient and let the legal system work. By constantly blaming the investigation and the community, he himself is putting undue pressure on the investigation.

    And what is the point of bringing religion or GSB community in this debate? As if Murders have never happened in other religions. Makes no sense, there are good and bad people everywhere.

    Not an atheist but support Nayak for his fight against mindless superstition and people who rob gullible innocents. Been reading Mangalore Today, especially Nayak's articles for years. We need people like him. He hasn't insulted any religion only condemned a particular section for spreading superstition or hatred. We are with you Nayakji. We defend our right to freedom of speech.

    Religion is a double edged sword.Blind belief in the humans managing it means we feel offended.

    On the other hand all the money matters managed were on a transparent accountable audit-able manner then truth would give moral support.

    The best policy : Helping the needy (as opposed to donating to " God" ) would really please the Lord.We need God. If we are devotees then lets help the poor Baliga's family and others.

    It is very sad that no one has spoken for the plight of Baliga family instead they are worried about prestige.


    I would generalize my views on all the religions as all are man made(without exceptions).

    When a fellow GSB was brutally killed on a master plan by a fellow GSB with 17 wounds all over, no one protested. Now when commissioner of police has already said they have enough evidence about Naresh Shenoy is the mastermind behind the whole game, the so called hitarakshana vedike wakes up and says,,,"GSB community has nothing to do with the Murder. Why?...Isnt Naresh a GSB? Now while every one is suspecting who may be the big great person behind all the theories, these people come out shouting....Kashi Math is defamed, Our SV Temple is defamed. Where were you people while all these conspiracies were been planned?

    well said.....perhaps the so called GSBs who are self proclaimed as leaders now making halla gulla on streets should provide financial aid to the family of slain Baliga.I hope that is the gods work and lord Venkataramana will also bless those who does this noble work.Rest said is all false prestige.The whole episode has made proud Mangalorean GSBs anywhere in the world to hang their head in shame.

    Rightly said. Perpetrators of this brutal murder of an RTI activist Mr. Vinayak Baliga should be brought to book and justice given to his distraught aged parents and near & dear ones who were dependent on him. No one is above law. Threatening a person who is supporting the family of a slain GSB community fellow is utterly outrageous and smacks of lawlessness in the entire community which is known for its highly law abiding people. The mastermind of the murder , however big or politically well connected he may be ,should be dealt with, as per the due process of law. Law should take its own course.

    With anguisH one should note that Slaughtering cows is more heinous, cowardice than slaughtering human beings!! Cows worshipped but why not human life? IT'S AN IDEOLOGICAL PARADOX. why people don't value life??

    who gave birth to human being? Who has the right to curtail human life? Who is deciding life and death of fellow human being? Whether rogue,goonda elements are deciding existence of human race??? life is a celebration. Greed n dishonesty root cause of evil forces overpowering just causes.

    Situation has come to this melancholic stage bcz police didn't arrest n prosecute the prime plotters in vinayaka baliga murder cause. Why would people like prof.nayak come out to fight for justice? It's mainly bcz justice is getting delayed and murderers are protected from jaws of law.

    IF POLICE MADE ARREST OF KILLERS OF BALIGA SURELY PTOF.NAYAK WOULDN'T HAVE GOT DEATH THREAT. SYSTEM IS SYSTEMATICALLY FAILED BY PEOPLE IN POWER SO AS TO GIVE ESCAPE ROUTE TO PLOTTERS OF CRIME.

    Its an UNDISPUTABLE FACT that 'all Religions' are one of the biggest money printing machines in the name of varios Gods! This is the reason those actively involved with it want to continue with stonage traditions, rituals, etc. so that the flow of money is not interrupted, and with across the board type of people involved in their management with almost zero accountability, it is very easy to form a formidable cartel to thwart anyone questioning them even simple questions, that is the reason why eminent rationalists are being singled out and eliminated!!

    Majority of religious followers are either bind or prefer to look the other side despite knowing the facts for obvious reasons!!

    Remaining few enlightened ones are either bribed, threatened, or shooed away with money power and sheer force!!

    Problem is religion worldwide has become a multi billion dollar industry, and to get to the core of any irregularities going on, by a few commoners is impossible and fraught with very high risks! Hence majority look the other way lest they incur their wrath!!

    Prof. Nayak is doing his best to educate and enlighten commoners at great risk to his life, why should even a mad person be doing it one should think, use logic and then decide!!

    Let's hope the mercilessly slained late victims shed blood does not go in vain and real culprits are brought to Justice!!!

    Nowadays a section of people are showing that "intolerance" are associated with religious entities and think that they are the protectors of Indian Sanskrathi.
    For all those who were in denial of intolerance : here is the proof of concept. This threat means that these elements are scared enough as the situation has reached the boiling point.

    As human beings we are vulnerable to vices : Lust, greed, Anger, Jealousy. religion can be tool to control the vices in us. The problem is that religion for some is a source of money. When money power and " prominence in society" are mixed up vices have to be hidden and a pretense of piousness prevails.

    These are the very same people who feel threatened by progressive culture so much so that they want to keep the superstitions , meaningless traditions beyond their time.

    Evil has no sanskrathi. Evil has no tradition. Evil needs to be routed out otherwise it will spread.

    I first would like to congratulate Prof. Nayak for being on the right track. The very reason you have received a threat to your life/well-being proves this.
    Prof. Nayak definitely needs police security at the earliest as there surely must be enough vested interests who will be put into significant discomfiture as he continues his good work.
    He can be compared to a modern day freedom fighter. (I mean freedom from corruption,superstition etc..)
    Will we not stand up to protect those who live their lives to make our city a better place.
    Let us hope and pray for his safety....
