Bengaluru, May 13: In a case involving Vishalakshi Bhat of Uttara Kannada district origin, who allegedly had defrauded rich customers including cine actors, businessmen and retired police officers to the extent of Rs 40 crore, her husband also stands arrested.
Vishalakshi Bhat had reportedly convinced a number of her customers to cover themselves with life insurance, when she was working as manager of HDFC Life's BTM Layout branch here. . After collecting premiums she allegedly did not remit the money to the company. She is presently lodged in the Parappana Agrahara central prison.

Vishalakshi's husband, Srikant Hegde, who works as an engineer for Titan, stands arrested, an officer of city crime branch unit stated. "A part of the money Vishalakshi earned out of fraud was also remitted to the bank account of Hegde. He was produced in the court of the additional chief metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) on Thursday, and was sent to judicial custody till May 24," he added.
Vishalakshi has been facing cases in Jeevanbima Nagar, Subrahmanyapura, and Madiwala police stations here. The police have found that she had invested the funds diverted by her for buying land and sites. They are taking steps to seize them, it is gathered.
