Mangalore: Sahitya Academy Releases Two Konkani Books at Kalaangann

Mangalore, Oct 29: The future of Konkani language is not looking too bright now. However, it is observed that Konkani teachers who have been engaged in imparting Konkani language in schools have provided moral support to Konkani activists through their work. This will help in the development of Konkani language, declared Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of ‘www.daijiworld.com.’
Speaking after releasing the book titled ‘Konkani People in Suvarna Karnataka,’ at the Konkani teachers’ training programme, organized by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy (KKSA) at Kalangann here on Monday October 29, he positively opined that the KKSA has done a tremendous job by introducing Konkani in schools. Teachers should continue the work of developing Konkani, he advised.
The ‘Konkani Nirantari,’ programme organized by the Maand Sobhaan will spread the glorious name of Konkani to all corners of the world. Therefore, it is imperative that all should ensure that this programme is a grand success, he exhorted.
Releasing another book ‘Konkani Short Stories of the 20th Century,’ well-known Konkani poet Melvyn Rodrigues revealed that stories can narrate history. Similarly stories can make a young boy feel old and old guy feel young, he declared, touching on the true essence of stories. Melvyn Rodrigues informed that man started telling stories since he started using language. “The language used to tell a story can either conjoin or build or destroy anything”, he declared thereby stressing on the importance of correct usage of language.
Roy Castelino, president of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, Dr Gerald Pinto Niddodi, Stephen Quadros and Aloysius D’Souza were present on the occasion.
Eric Ozario, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, welcomed the gathering. Registrar of the Academy H S Shivarudrappa proposed vote of thanks. Academy member Vitori Karkal compered the programme.
