Mangaluru, May 30:J Arun Chakravarthy, IPS took charge as Inspector General of Police of Western Range here on Monday May 30.
Mangaluru city police commissioner who was in-charge as IGP handed over the office to Arun Kumar.
J Arun Chakravarthy, native of Chitradurga, was selected as customs inspector in 1990 and in 1995, he was sleeted for the IPS.
Chakravarthy also worked as Assistant superintendent of Police Sagar, Shivamogga district, Superintendent of Police of Raichur, Superintendent of Police Chitradurga, Deputed to United Nations Organization for Peace Keeping Operations in Eastern Europe, Superintendent of police Shivamogga District, Superintendent of Police of Bijapur and while serving here, Arun Chakravarthy also promoted as Deputy IGP.
As Deputy IGP he also served as Director, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, Bengaluru, Deputy Inspector General of Police Karnataka Lokayukta, Bengaluru and while serving here Arun also promoted as IGP. As a IGP he also served Karnataka Lokayuktha, Bengaluru, Inspector General Police Forest Cell, Bengaluru, Inspector General Police, Police Headquarters, Bengaluru, Inspector General of Police Central Bengaluru.
He also secured United Nations Medal for his role in maintaining peace in Eastern Europe in 2003. President's Police Medal for meritorious service in 2009.
Speaking with media the new IGP said "This is one of the most challenging ranges in the police department one can visualize. I am not new to this Western range. I worked as probationary in the undivided Dakshina Kannada during 1996-97."
On Naxal problem in the Western Range, he said “I have worked in Raichur and Shivamogga where this problem prevails. I will study the situation here and work on it."
On police personnel holding protest, he said “I have just taken charge. I will discuss with officers and collect the facts."
Punctual
The new IGP, Western range who was supposed to take charge at 10.00 am came at 9.30 am to the surprise of many. Normally the officers of this grade come on time or late, but never so early.
