The respect should be mutual between daughter in law and mother in law. Sad to see many times MIL and SIL still want to rule the house and DIL is treated as an outsider. Husband is a mute spectator. He needs to take responsibility and put everybody in their place. Nobody has the right to interfere in a couples married life.

Respect one cannot demand. Everybody is aware of whom to respect. One cannot expect the respect when the person is different from their point of view of respectable person. In this case the lady had more options to live than die. Expecting respect from everybody is foolishness.

She could live instead of suicide since her husband arranged separate home for her where she could do whatever she wanted to do instead of putting husband in jail.

husbands has no protection, the law should be made equal. The truth may be some thing else only, existing law can not protect husbands at all.
Now days there are several cases in which wife is harassing husband, but unfortunately he can not have any protection. Law draftsman and professionals in this subject must make a review and try to make equal laws in such instances.
This is major threat for Indian society,India is known to world by its rich heritage family system, and cultures, these essence starts from home, home is a family, if family is damaged by such acts then whole country will have a problem and there will be no difference to western countries in matrimonial issues and family system.
