Mangaluru, Jun 1: Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math in Udupi, Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math and state assembly speaker Kagodu Thimmappa, in their reactions to the protest planned by police personnel, have responded sympathetically to their woes.
All these three persons have said that the government should respond to the demands of the police personnel who have decided to protest by way of mass leave on June 4 to register their anger at government's reluctance to consider their demands including pay parity.
Pejawar Swamiji speaking to reporters in Udupi said "The police personnel who have the responsibility of maintaining law and order in the state should withdraw the proposed strike. At the same time the government should listen to the demands of police and close the issue.”
Shiroor Math Swamiji said that the chief minister should listen to the police personnel and address their woes." They work day and night to maintain peace in the state. Karnataka police are known for honesty and duty consciousness. If the government does not meet their demands, Shiroor Math will support the stir by the police personnel.”
Kagodu Thimmappa speaking to media persons in Shivamogga said that the police face several problems. He felt that there is a need to look into their genuine grievances and address them. "The government should not delay matters. It should intervene in the matter and hold talks with police personnel. The problems should be addressed before June 4. Steps like creation of pay panel should be undertaken," he felt.
About the system of orderlies attending to house chores in houses of higher police officers prevalent in the department, he opined that police officers should not utilize services of police constables for their personal and house work.
