Beltangady, Jun 3: It is said that six young pilgrims from Chikkamagaluru, who had come to fulfill religious vows at Kajoor Dargah, came under the attack of some local Bajrang Dal activists. Reportedly, the pilgrims were taking bath in River Netravati at Kajoor Kolli when the gang approached them, took umbrage at bathing at the Devara Gundi holy spot, and assaulted them. The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday June 2.
When the young men from neighbouring district were washing themselves in the river when on their way back, they were attacked all of a sudden. The attackers left, duly warning the men not to approach the police, it is claimed.
After the locals got information about this assault, they got the victims admitted into the government hospital in the town. A complaint was made at the police station here. After the incident, the situation in Kajoor Kolli area turned tense. Senior police officers including superintendent of police, deputy superintendent of police etc visited the spot. Additional police forces were deployed. Situation is under control as of now.
