Mangaluru, Jun 4: Infamous homestay accused were attacked by a rowdy-sheeter at court premises here on Saturday, Jun 4.
Japan Manga alias Raju is the person who attacked the accused randomly.
As per details available, the group of 38 accused of Mangaluru homestay attack were going out from the court after the hearing. Japan Manga appeared from nowhere and attacked the accused with a knife he was holding.
Police constables Harish, Mahanthesh and ASI Sridhar intervened and stopped the attack and took Japan Manga into custody immediately to avert further damage.
DCP Shantharaj, ACP Thilakachandra and inspectors Maruthi Nayak and Shantheram came to the spot and calmed down the situation.
Japan Manga has been taken to Bunder police station.
Japan Manga is a criminal allegedly involved in many cases now under bail.
Police commissioner Chandra Shekar who arrived to the court premises appreciated the work done by the police personnel. CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza also visited the spot.
Speaking to media police commissioner said “Police personnel has done good job. ASI Shridar, head constable Harish, PC Mahanthesh, HC Dinesh who prevented this will be rewarded with Rs 2,000 each and recommendation certificate.
Advocate S P Chengappa, president of Mangaluru Bar Association said that "Mangaluru Bar Association will felicitate police personnel."
One of the likely targets-Subhash Padil
As per sources, Subhash Padil and Sampath, two of the accused in the homestay case, could have been the targets. But this could not be confirmed.
