Government asks minority colleges to give 25% seats

Bengaluru, Jun 6 (DHNS): The state government has sought 25% seat share from the minority medical and dental colleges through CET counselling.

According to a senior member of the minority colleges’ association, who had earlier this week met Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, the government is demanding 25% of seat share as per the consensual agreement, which states minority colleges will have to give the state government its quota of seats through CET.

The colleges, however, sought time to take a decision. “We have sought 15 days’ time. Filling seats through CET would mean double standards. When NEET has been declared, the sole exam for medical seats, is it not injustice if we take students based on CET ranking?” an association member said.

The government also had a meeting with private unaided colleges and sought a 40% seat share. But the private colleges refused, saying the agreement with the government was invalid following the NEET ordinance. Patil has sought a legal opinion in this regard.

..is Minority colleges Holycow!!..why its an issue, while all rules applies to colleges run by majorities!!..when a institution receives Govt fund say tax payers money, its bound to follow Govt orders..just take ALIGHAR MUSLIM UNIVERSITY case..it was started from public & Govt fund..land was donated by a Hindu king..there is nothing minority/majority there..but for several years management of the university fighting out to get minority status..at one point Congress under UPA agreed with SC for the status..but even before SC giving judgement, AMU reduced quota/reservation to other caste and applied for 50% reservation to minorities (still not approved)!!..its ridiculous to say Govt has duty to protect minority character of the institutions while so called majorities are burden to follow secularsim in every way whether its religious or other..by the way, check the details of the trust which runs these colleges..most of them by politicians and businessmen..
