Mangaluru, Jun 9: "The central government has not been permitting export of flesh of cows, calves, and other related products from India. We have placed blanket ban on all these exports," said union minister for commerce and industry, Nirmala Sitharaman.
She was speaking at a programme organized on Wednesday June 8 in the city by various industries, organizations, and institutions, for accepting petitions.
She said that abattoirs where cows are slaughtered have been completely shut down in several states in the country, whereas they continue to operate in some southern states. When Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, M B Puranik, questioned her about export of beef, she said that protection of cows falls under the state subject. She however, added that export of flesh of cows and calves and other products manufactured by using these items have been banned.
A member of the audiences raised the question of problems created in connectivity and internet. "UFC cables have been laid out all through Dakshina Kannada district. In Udupi, this process is in beginning stage. For Udupi, 350 km communication network has been sanctioned. I will speak to MP, Shobha Karandlaje, about this problem," said MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel. Union minister of state in the department of home, Haribhai Choudhary. stated that BSNL has been running under loss since long, and its losses have touched Rs 800 crore now. He said that central government has been making effort to bring it out of red.
A number of representatives of organizations and institutions raised questioned and drew attention of the concerned to various problems faced by them.
Nirmala Seetharaman explained that the NDA government at the centre has been trying to transform a system that had been prevalent in the country since the last six decades, and bring into practice a new system. "India being looked upon with high expectations all over the world. We are trying to achieve overall development without allowing other forces to interfere. Many countries have supported India's case for admission into NSG. A number of countries which had hitherto not shown inclination to invest here, are now showing interest to invest in the country under 'Make in India' concept. Our FDA has grown by 42 percent," she stated.
She revealed that the present government has been supporting start ups, and the Prime Minister of the country has been working relentlessly and many countries are entering into strategic agreements with India. The minister received petitions relating to cashew nut, areca nut, rubber etc, and promised to take steps for improving the situation they are facing now.
Former president of National SC/ST Morcha, Dushyant Kumar, Gautam, Pratapsimha Nayak, Capt Ganesh Karnik, and others were present.
