Mangaluru: DC walks out in middle of meeting over Golf Course

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 17: Unhappy over the fact that there has been no progress in construction of Golf Course at Tannirbavi even after a year since land was handed over for the project, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), A B Ibrahim, walked out of the meeting in a huff during the meeting convened to discuss the issue at his office on the evening of Wednesday June 15. The meeting was also attended by additional DC, Kumar, managing director of contracting firm, Prakash Shetty, and several officials.

The DC wanted to get details about the golf course works from the officials and contractors. He also expressed resentment at the fact that no work had begun over the golf course even after year since two acres of land was allotted to tourism department for the purpose. When the officials and contractors tried to evade the subject by giving vague replies, the DC turned angry. Accusing the officials and contractors alike of behaving irresponsibly, he angrily walked out of the meeting midway.

Dayanand Shetty, district president of Tannirbavi Residents Association, accused the government of providing facilities to private entrepreneurs at Bengre and Tannirbavi, while denying title deeds, house number, underground drainage, drinking water etc to about 3000 families living there. He said that the district administration has now been trying to shunt these families out.

Democratic Youth Federation of India district committee has accused the deputy commissioner of illegally sanctioning land for golf course at Tannirbavi.

Sounds so silly for the DC to walk out for such an irrelevant issue as a golf course for Mangalore when there are so many important issues that are affecting the common man's lives on a daily basis that need his attention! At least now, we all know where his real interests lie, he is more concerned about a golf course which can be accessed by the rich class. If only he had walked out or showed his anger on more basic issues affecting us, this would have been overlooked. Thanks Mr DC for showing your true colours! Does a smart city require presence of golf courses? maybe he is focused on fulfilling the criteria for a smart city than a normal city! Look at the state of our roads and footpaths and drains after a week of rains do we have any respite from them? A case of misplaced priorities!

We at least know one thing this DC is angry about. I wonder whether he gets angry about efficiency of government staff. I know one DC in neighboring district who took more than 6 months to sign an approved government grant meant for rural women's cause. i.e. after district in-charge minister announcing it publicly. Reason to be angry?

Good management practice is to address the issue there and then, provide solutions and GET THE THINGS DONE. Walking away does not solve the problem, however frustrated you are.

Why acquire land from poor people , drive them out and construct a golf course. Why don't you allow the locals at Tannirbhavi to open some hygenic eateries with fish on the menu just like in Goa and develop the place for tourism.
Is golf course a priority Issue for Mangalore.I'm sure the people who are supposed to develop the area as a golf course have some plans to swallow prime real estate .

DC ge incha aanaga nana common people yench aavu panlege. but DC is not a helpless person to get up and move like that. he can take immediate action against the officers. These officers are so used to push the projects for years and decades... they don't know anything like schedule, deadline, penalty kind of clauses. If DC introduce these things, all the buffalos will start working properly. I bet.

Anger is not the solution for all.
To overcome and to march forward is a best policy. See our great prime minister..he never shunned with attack of opposition. He only concentrated on his work. Efforts will be rewarded one day today or after a year. It looks like DC..darpok..cannot face the same.

The DC will have to walk for many other issues for the work done in Mangalore. What about the roads and footpaths in Mangalore?, in fact golf course is not a needed for a town like Mangalore there are much more important issues in Mangalore. Abolish the private bus "MAFIA".

survived so long. Opinionated, vicious. Uncalled for. Mangalore has so many problems. What about the Wagons filled with sand at Bantwal. What about water tanker Scam. Incomplete undergriubd drainage.
