Kalaburagi, Jun 25: The local police have taken into custody three Kerala-based students of Al Qamar Nursing College here late night on Friday June 24. These three senior students of the nursing college reportedly had forcibly put phenyl down the throat of a junior nursing student staying at the hostel, identified as Ashwithi.
The arrested students have been identified as Laxmi, Athira, and Krishnapriya. They were produced in court and remanded to judicial custody, said district superintendent of police, N Shashikumar. In this case, both the victim and the three students accused of ragging her, hail from Kerala.
As per the complaint filed in Kozhikode Medical College police station in Kerala, the seniors named above were accused of ragging their junior, Ashwithi, and forcefully putting toilet cleaner into her digestion system. The student is being treated at Kozhikode now. The case was thereafter transferred to Roja police station in the town on Thursday. The college authorities had initially termed ragging allegation as false.
A team led by deputy superintendent of police, Jahnavi, which had been entrusted with the task of investigation, took three persons into custody and questioned them. As it was found during the questioning that wrongs had been committed, they were arrested. Shashikumar said that the first information report contains five names. However, as the name of one of the students was repeated, four have been accused. The remaining student would be arrested soon, he added.
The investigating team had met and questioned various people including college governing council, students, doctors who treated the girl when she was here, and staff of the hostel and college all through Friday.
