Iftar held at St Michael’s Catholic Church Sharjah for 500 Muslim brothers

Media Release

Sharjah, Jun 28: For the first time in the history of a Catholic Church in the UAE or may be even in the GCC countries, Iftar was held at St Michael’s Church Sharjah parish hall on June 22, where more than 500 poor labourers were given love, respect and Iftar.

In the presence of his Excellency Sheikh Salem, prayers were said and everyone was treated to a sumptuous meal. This is in line with what Pope Francis preaches to the world, “Go beyond your borders and reach out with Love’’. In the great Emirates, the rulers have always supported Christians and given the freedom to practice other religions.

A very dynamic Arab priest has joined St Michael’s church and this is his idea. He even went out of his way to motivate the youth and send them to traffic signals everyday at 6 pm to distribute dates and water to the motorists and when asked which group this was, they were amazed and happy that a Catholic Church is doing it.

Fr Maxim went about greeting the labourers, patting them on their backs and welcoming them with a big smile. No doubt the function was a big success with everyone going back with a sweet experience and a taste of Christian love.

Very unique gesture by Sharjah Church Priests and organizers of Iftar. We will be recognized by the world by our love and peace. Not by our visits, drum beats and circus. Long live UAE rulers.

Very unique and very noble gesture on behalf of the Church authorities in Sharjah to hold an "Iftar" gathering to commemorate the season of Ramadhan.

Gestures such as these elevate the image of India on a higher pedestal of recognition from the host countries.

The season of Ramadhan is truly a season of 'sharing and caring' as well as a time for "forgiving and pardoning". Howsoever small or large the neighboring country outside India will always remember us as a Nation of high repute ready to preach and practice our spirit of 'secular values' far and beyond our borders.

Our safety and security outside India is solely depending upon our acts of goodwill and charity so that we can continue to render our dignity of labor and make a small Sheikhdom such as Sharjah can realize that we all have a mutual purpose to live together, and live with peace and harmony.

A significant step in the direction of inter-religious brotherhood.

Let's hope that many more inter-religious functions will be organised, in the interests of inter-religious brotherhood and universal peace.

Heart filled with joy to see the gathering of Christians and Muslims. It is not just sharing the food but love. The religious tolerance of Arab rulers, specially Dubai and Bahrain is worth praising. May Allah almighty bless them with more prosperity. Ramadan Kareem.
