Udupi, Jul 4: The sea waves have become ferocious near the shore at Malpe. The sea has eaten up retaining wall stones and interlock beside the sea and the local people have been spending days in fear.

Though people have heard that permanent breakwall will be built around the sea shore for the last four years, people's representatives including ministers, MLAs or local representatives have not responded despite continued sea erosion. There is only usual work of keeping boulders in the places where the old ones are washed away.

Permanent breakwall is yet to be a reality. The interlocks for the tourists and the residents to walk around have now gone in the sea.

Though complaints were submitted to city municipal council (CMC) president Meenakshi and vice president Sandhya by lifeguard staff Mohan, who saves the lives of tourists and searches dead bodies in the sea day and night, there has been no action from the authorities. The council engineer has stopped bringing sand and boulders to the place now as they cannot be transported here.

Pramod Madhwaraj, the local MLA who has been appointed minister of fisheries and district in-charge minister, should take some initiative to build permanent breakwall and get the waste material in the seashore removed creating a safe environment for the tourists and local people.

Sand bags would have withhold the sea currents much better than these band aid style interlocks. Looks like the "Band Aid" peeled off. This is called "KaLape Kamagarike" in Kannada.

Against Nature noone is sure.No specialist can prevent it when nature gets fury. But sometimes we can try to avoid it or bit slow.with all warning some try to sand mining in river see.And now why cry?Ministers are not worried because they are safe at home, sea waves have not come to their feet.Instead of only interlock ,why not place heavy big Stones to hold back waves where most dangerous places.?

Start building it up from TETRAPODS..concrete... structures.
these are the only structures to break the water waves and protect from erosion.

Promises to do this, do that, bring heaven to the earth, etc., etc., are the ones, one gets to hear just at election time and we have been hearing these for the past 69 years.

Keeping up the promises is usually the most difficult and usually unfinished part of the story. Anyway, let's give a fair chance to the new Minister. With hardly 2 years left for the completion of the present ministry's term, will it be too much to expect a permanent solution to the problem?
Let our dear Mantri spell out his plan for the same (in a time-bound manner).
