Udupi, Jul 20: We live in the fast food era. The new generation does not know where the food they eat is cultivated and how. Most of them do not have any idea about farms or farming. In an attempt to teach the students the value of agriculture, a school here has taken a great initiative of taking them to the paddy field and engaging them in agricultural activities.
School children from tenth standard of Nittur high school were seen busy in the paddy field, learning the important skills in addition to their learning in classes. Their teachers gave them practical lessons about paddy cultivation.
The students enjoyed their outing. They worked in the half-an-acre field like experienced farmers. About 80 students who had come to the field planted the saplings under the supervision of experts. They also played some sports in the field.
Student learned that the farmer, who is the backbone of the country, works hard to feed the nation. One hopes that many more schools follow the lead.
