Udupi, Aug 3: National Service Scheme unit of Vidyaniketan first grade college at Kaup in the taluk had arranged for a programme in which students of the college were provided with knowledge about farming and they were allowed to experience for themselves the act of planting of paddy seedlings in agricultural field. The programme was organized on Tuesday August 2 with the specific aim of introducing the youth to the nuances of farming and giving them an opportunity to learn agricultural techniques by themselves.
The programe was carried out at the field owned by Mohan Sherigar near Vidyaniketan group of educational institutions. Harish Udupa, who has emerged as an achiever by his own right in agricultural activities in spite of being a specially abled person, functioned as resource person.
Slush field games were organized on the occasion to make the youngsters understand living in harmony with wet fields. In the afternoon, the students were served with rice gruel, a traditionally popular staple food of rural areas in Karnataka coast.
At the end, progressive farmer, Harish Udupa, was felicitated for facilitating students to get lot of information about agricultural activities.
Convener of Kaup Vidyaniketan group of educational institutions, K P Acharya, initiated the programme.
