Mangalore, Dec 7: In order to preserve, protect and restore antique articles and buildings, a district-level heritage committee must be formed, informed Dr G V Gayathri, deputy director of department of Archaelogical Survey and Museum.
She was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Parampare Koota’ at St Aloysius College here on Thursday December 6. It was jointly inaugurated with M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner by playing a traditional game ‘Chennemane’.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gayathri said that the committee must comprise of experts relating to the subject. They should be able to list the heritage structures and identify the buildings of historical importance, she added. The buildings which are identified will be restored in the future, she informed. ‘Parampare Koota’ is being organized by the department in various districts like Mysore, Vijapur, Kittoor, Gulbarga and other district since past six months, she said and added that it is being organized with the help of public and the identification of heritage structures has already taken off.
During the time of modernization, many of the heritage buildings are either left in a very bad condition or are demolished, said DC presiding over the programme. The Dakshina Kannada district too must also have heritage village as it is done in Mysore, he informed.
