Bengaluru, Aug 26: It is gathered that the police, who had booked Amnesty International for treason relating to programme held in the city recently, are finding that their case suffers from lack of enough evidence in the form of video tape. It is gathered that the department has sought advice from legal experts as anti-national slogans were not found in the video.
A senior officer involved with the investigation, speaking to media representatives on Thursday August 25, revealed that in spite of repeatedly watching the video, nothing that could be classified as anti-national could be heard. The officer said that the video footage has been sent to forensic laboratory for their report.
As per the video the policemen watched, they could hear slogans like 'Jaan Se Lenge Azadi - Zor Se Lenge Azadi' and 'Cheer Ke Lenge Azadi'. The police believe that these slogans do not fall under the category of sedition as per Supreme Court verdicts.
Another issue the police are worried is about the fact that the complainant, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad leader, Jayaprakash, had not participated in the programme and hence was not present when slogans were reportedly raised. Two other activists agreed that they could not properly assimilate some slogans as they were raised in Kashmiri, fast English, and Urdu languages. But they believed that they were anti-national going by their body language, they had said.
The police also contemplate seeking assistance of linguistic experts in this regard, the officer said.
